Training and Education

Training and Education
The Members of the Exeter Hip Foundation believe that specialist training is the key to achieving the very best clinical results for patients undergoing total hip replacement surgery. All members of the Foundation are actively involved in training and education.

We run six courses each year at Exeter, attended by surgeons from all over the world, at which we teach the principles behind The Exeter Hip Replacement, present the results of using The Exeter Hip and demonstrate the surgical techniques that we use to get the very best clinical results. We also conduct a practical course in revision hip replacement surgery and we receive frequent invitations to address courses and conferences at other centres in the United Kingdom and abroad. One or more members of the Foundation attend all the major Orthopaedic meetings around the world to present our research and engage in academic debate.

A vital part of our training programme is the Fellowship programme which has been running for the last 15 years. Through this programme surgeons are able to visit Exeter for periods of training that range from six weeks to a year, depending upon their educational requirements. Fellows are taught primary and revision hip replacement, and while they are with us they play an active part in our research programme. We also welcome surgeons who wish to visit for shorter periods of time to observe surgery. Previous fellows and visitors have included surgeons from North and South America, Australia and New Zealand, Europe and Asia, who help to make up a network of colleagues who are specially trained in The Exeter techniques of hip replacement surgery.
